Where There is Great Beauty There is Often Great Danger Original Fine Art Print
THE STORY BEHIND THE ART: "Where There is Great Beauty There is Often Great Danger" is an original work of art from Tim McIlveene, the founder of British Malaya Shop. He lived in China and Southeast Asia for several years and heard this expression on a trip in rural China. He and his local friend were deep in the mountains in Guizhou Province, China on a rickety, run down bus on one lane roads that barely clung to the mountain side. It was unbelievably gorgeous but at the same time unbelievably scary as the driver went as fast as he could around the blind curves and a 1,000 ft sheer drop off on the other side. Tim remarked on how stunning the scenery was, and his friend uttered the quote that's memorialized on this original work of art.
THE IMAGES: What better way to represent beauty and danger than a beautiful woman? The lady featured in this work is taken from a vintage mid-century postcard from Hong Kong featuring a Cantonese starlet at the time. She is overlaid in dangerous colors of Chinese red and hot pink. He smile and expression are alluring and tempting - the perfect look for this print.
